The results of the OLC Show Organisers Survey

Started by obedienceuk on 02 Nov 2026 11:27
Thank you to all those who completed the survey, please find the paper attached.

It highlights some interesting points for consideration by all.

Evidence that the current show model is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.
Only 34% are confident they will still be running shows in five years, while 21% already consider their show at risk or unsustainable. This is real concern for all show managers and competitors alike, as there has already been so many shows lost over the years.
Along with the well known judging and steward shortages, there is also a shortage of volunteers to ensure the show can run.
39% said that their entry numbers were declining
There is a significant variation in the cost of entry fees and some clubs are using club funds to financially support the show.

Ideas for improvement

- Creating a central directory of judges, stewards and volunteers;
- Expanding training and mentoring for judges;
- Simplifying qualification routes for judges;
- Strengthening organisational support;
- Developing a clear strategy to attract and prepare the next generation of organisers and officials.

Let us know your thoughts

Thank you
